We are on a mission to ‘make the world safer, healthier and more productive’ and we carry that through everything we do as we work towards a more sustainable global ecology.”
Big Ass Fans, the world leader in premium ceiling fans, saw the COVID-19 pandemic as an opportunity to research and develop better airflow systems. The company needed to change the game and implement technology that would seamlessly combine stunning design, a reduction in energy consumption and a product that improves air quality. Through extensive testing, including partnering with industry-leading scientists in a military-grade test facility with verified third-party laboratory tests, Big Ass Fans created the specially-designed Haiku ceiling fan.
Combining cutting-edge, soundless operation, smart home technology with a sleek design through automatic sensors and smartphone app control options, the Haiku fan is natural and simple solution, driven by both precision engineering and artistic sensibility, where no feature is compromised. The fan’s three airfoils are engineered from aircraft-grade aluminium and designed to maximise airflow across the body of the fan. With high-grade, lightweight materials, the Haiku fan is built to withstand the test of time and last a lifetime.
Reflective of its name, the design of Haiku is inspired by the ink lines of Japanese poetry and the natural forms, like a crane’s wings, evoking this aesthetic. Traditional ceiling fans separate the motor, the blades and the light fixtures into distinct components. Haiku with UV-C (ultraviolet light) is designed to wrap all components and technology into the overall curvilinear design of the airfoils.
Haiku is the first ceiling fan to incorporate sensors and microprocessors to create a fixture that monitors room conditions and learns user preferences, known as Big Ass Fans’ SenseME technology. Haiku’s integrated inverter drive motor helps Haiku exceed ENERGY STAR® efficiency requirements for residential ceiling fans by 450 per cent.
By integrating all of these features with a UV-C uplight on top of the fan motor, air and airborne pathogens pass through an antimicrobial zone created by the UV-C light, which destroys the pathogens and returns air to the occupants below. This is known as Big Ass Fans’ Clean Air System. Through lab testing, The Big Ass Fans Clean Air System UVGI (UV-C) Antimicrobial Technology killed 99.9% of viruses in the air in 20 minutes, including SARS-CoV-2 and PhiX174 bacteriophage. The combination of airflow with air-purifying technology means the air in any occupied space is constantly being cleaned, providing a healthier and happier environment.
Using UV-C to create clean and fresh environments has a huge impact on the health, comfort, well-being and productivity of the occupants of a space. By improving the air quality, Big Ass Fans is able to reduce the rates of sick leave, breaks, mistakes, and risk of workplace accidents due to reduced cognitive functions when unwell.
